Try Direct Connection Yourself First
If you are going to run a fantasy sports wagering league and want to see how Direct Connection works before using it with your players, this is how you do it. Once you have done the steps outlined in this section, you will see exactly what your Players see when using the Player application. While this may ease your mind by experiencing this first hand before your Players do, this step is absolutely NOT REQUIRED.
To experience Direct Connection yourself, you will not need to mess with opening up any ports. For now, you may ignore the section entitled, Direct Connection Books Must Receive Signal. However, should you realize the great benefits from running your league in this manner and wish to extend invites to your Players, you must reverse what you do here and then refer to Direct Connection Books Must Receive Signal.
If you do not have ANY Direct Connection Players yet and wish to use it before they do, you may go into the GameDay Payoff - Book configuration file and insert a line by which you can use the application anywhere (for yourself) without the requirements of those identified in the "Direct Connection Books Must Receive Signal" section of Help. This is called "local hosting" whereby the direct connection signal stays internal to your network. However, for this to work, you MUST have the Book and the Player on the SAME COMPUTER. If you have not already installed the Player and need it, refer to Have Book/Player, Want Other.
Keep in mind that if you ever need to establish a Direct Connection with your Players, then you will have to reverse what you have done here or it will never work. To accomplish local hosting for GameDay Payoff - Book you must do as follows:
1) Close the application
2) Search your computer for the file "Book.xml". Make sure you option to search in hidden folders because that is where it is located.
3) Upon locating it, right click and Open With the Notepad application
4) Once it is open, place your cursor at the end of the line, "<clear />" and hit the Enter on your keyboard and then the Tab key.
5) Now copy the entire line between the pair of quotes. "<add key="IPAddress" value="127.0.0.1" />"
6) Paste it in the Book.xml file where you had last tabbed to (your cursor should be there).
7) Then Save the file and Close it
Next time you launch the application, you will be "local hosting".
When you are finished, your "Book.xml" file should look like the following:

IMPORTANT: If you ever decide to establish a Direct Connection with your Player's, IT WILL NOT WORK with local hosting in place. You MUST reverse this process and remove the line that was inserted.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT change anything else from within the "Book.xml" file. Your application will not operate properly and you will need to do a full uninstall (see topic "Uninstall Book/Player" in Help) of the application and start over.
